RATHENART DESIGNS "NOCTURNAL BLOOM" LAUNCH

About a year ago, i had a dream. The dream was to merge art and fashion together to create a clothing range. Inspired by my grandmother who was an amazing seamstress and creative person, i thought i would add another dream to my list of things i would love to accomplish.

Problem. I never learnt how to sew as when my grandma was sewing, i would do art and craft activities and paint. She always inspired me to do my best and follow my dreams, so i decided to take a chance and go for it.

Last night i launched my fashion label Rathenart Designs with my first collection "Nocturnal Bloom".
Having learnt to sew six weeks ago, i followed my heart and believed in my talents. I am proud (and very emotional) of what i achieved and can now say that there is no looking back.

With these ideas in mind, I am again blessed with my third Solo Exhibition - "The Witching Owl". It has been a long time since i have last blogged and let you know what has been happening. Although i continually paint and create art, i have been a lazy bugger when it comes to posting and sharing.

"The Witching Owl" is a playful description for my nocturnal painting hours and for when creativity sparks. In this exhibition i have tried to push the boundaries in terms of variety of style, materials and technique yet keep the same subject matter. For those of my friends unable to see my new show i have attached a selected few images from the exhibition as well as some of the late, late, late, did i say late, nights of work in progress.

DEL KATHRYN BARTON

Del Kathryn Barton is widely recognised as one of Australia's leading figurative painters of her generation. Barton was awarded The 2008 Archibald Prize for a self-portrait with her children, and was finalist in 2007. The Archibald Prize is Australia's most prestigious portrait painting awards. Simple put. I think she is ACE.

JOSH YELDHAM

Joshua Yeldham’s work explores a spiritual connection and journey into the Australian landscape. In the past we saw the artist draw deeply on his experiences in the remote desert landscape in his highly regarded series Solitude’s Bride and later, Bird Nest Diaries. His latest work takes us into a new landscape, the Hawkesbury River. His work is subjective, tactile, expressive and WOW.

I have bubba in one hand so please forgive me if there are mistakes in this blog. It will be short and sweet and i think the photos will say it all. I finally finished my commission work. Yeah baby. And as the title suggests, time to start something new. The measurements for these artworks are "Tribal Possession" 92cm x 92cm, "Tribal Possession II" 2 x 61cm x 92cm and as a complete triptych 214cm x 92 cm.

I AM BACK

Back from the brink, or so they say. Although i have not posted in a long time, i have been regularly keeping track and reading amazing artistic blogs and keeping connected. Over the past couple of months my bubba boy has laughed, snorted, rolled, bounced and nearly sat up. All at the tender age of five months. As well as looking after my little man i have been slowly finishing my commission work. You know the work that never ends.

I have posted a few images of the work and as you can see from past blogs it is may i say nearly finished. Just lots and lots and lots and lots, did i say lots of dots to go. Can not wait to finish it as it is over two metres in length.

My Girl Gizmo

Just a quick message to say that i am trying really hard to maintain my blog although taking care of a eight week old baby takes up much of my life. I am however blessed with small breaks in the day and especially late at night that i can still paint. I will continue to show more progress as time goes by. I have added a picture of my baby girl Gizmo as entries with images always look better.

I think i am back..... Back to a creative being having experienced the most amazing beginning adventure as a mother. My bubba boy is only eight weeks old but is already sleeping through the night. He MUST take after me, I love my sleep. So due to having more sleep and a wonderful little boy who really never cries except for food and changing of bottom i have been able to slowly, i mean slowly start to paint again.

I have had a commission work to complete for the past four months but having been extremely sick during my pregnancy i was unable to complete it so i started it three days ago.

As you can see from my photos the commission is an extension of "Tribal Possessions". The buyer needed an extra 2 metres to complete his wall. I will continue to post the progress. I have also posted images of my art room. You can see the mess created during my hibernation away from painting compared to the photos shared last year. One thing at a time though. Can easily shut the door!

Having just checked my blog it seems that my last post was in November. OH long time, however, in that time many things have happened which may allow for my laps in blogging. In my absence from the blog world and the creating of artworks, i was creating something else.

On the 4th of March 2010, I gave birth to the most handsome little boy, Jaxson Vincent. I hope that allows for my time away. As everything is now getting easier (having been extremely sick), and having the rest of the year off work I do hope to become more focused on my blog and let you share in my journey as a mother and newly inspired artist.

Hi all and sorry about the delay. So much has happened and apart from again being sick and having time of work some amazing news came my way. I was accepted into Sydney Art 09 which is held at the Hordon Pavilion near Fox Studios. Here is a link to the site: www.artsydney09.com.au/

I have therefore postponed my Solo Show at the MLC Gallery till next year as all my work shall go into Sydney Art. This could be a real great opportunity to sell some work as over 15,ooo art buyers and admirers gather over the four long days.

It's been a slack arse attempt to keep my blog up to date over the past month. Not only did my computer crash, i lost most my images and then lost the photo edit cd. As you can see from my photos there not great but i am still searching for my photoshop cd.

Seen ive last blogged i have returned to Melbourne to see the John Brack Exhibition. Can I say to any body going to Melbourne, it's a must see. Truly inspirational and just an amazing body of work.

Now back to my images. What you see is the final works completed and framed. When i can take better photos i will show the close up work. Its really funny how size is playing a major factor in this series development. The large work is called " The Eyes of Things Unsaid" . The second and third two small works are "Blue Who" and "Masked Inside".

The main development of ideas behind these works are masked beauty and how we suffer to obtain the desirable look of perfection. The mask idea refers to the cover up of the true identity.

As my solo show is less then six months away, full time work and full time painting are taking its toll. I do wish to again thank my fellow bloggers who have checked up on me over my missing months.

I'm back. After two whole weeks without a computer thanks to a serious virus that wiped half the system, I'm alive and kicking in the blog world again. Progress Work

The images show the progress on my new artworks. The one below is about 1 metre by 1 1/2 metres, so it has taken a lot of time to complete. I am in the process of working on four different works at the one time as school starts back next week and time will be limited. There is alot of detail in this image and i am not sure is the camera has captured all of the detail. I have also posted two commissioned works that are in progress as well. They were commissioned from the Royal Easter show work "The Pursuit of My Mind" . Thanks for everybodies continued support. Take care and i will go back to painting. Have a great night.

Lost Dog????

My lost dog!!!! This is Gizmo, my beautiful four legged daughter who went missing. I found her sleeping in between my pillows on my bed. The look she gives me is because of the flash that work the poor thing up.

I would also like to take this time to thank all my new blog friends for their kind words of support and inspiration. Being only new to blogging i have found it a very rewarding experience to be in touch with such amazing and talented lovely people who all share the same passion as myself. May our new found friendships motivate and inspire all our creative endeavours.

First Ever Blogger Awards...........

Wow, what a cool day. Not only did i survive three days at school after my long illness, its now school holidays (YEAH), my artwork for the Royal Easter Show was chosen to be hung from hundreds of entries and my new art buddy Vania issued me with my first ever two blogger awards.

Vania is a very talented artist who also resides in Australia and has been very kind in choosing me for these two awards. Her work is amazing and you can check her creative and intriguing works out at http://valzderoart.blogspot.com/ .

New Studio Inspired

Today i got the all clear from my doctor to return to work. Two full weeks away from school is the longest I've been away for in my whole ten years of teaching. I can tell I'm slowly improving as i started a new work yesterday and took some progress photos. In the past month i have only painted because i had too and not for the totally pleasure. I can finally say the desire has returned and now i want to paint every day.

Artist Statement

Having been really sick now for over a month, i am finding it really hard to get back into the swing of things. However, one good thing that i did today was to transform my artist statement using a new gadget on the Internet called wordle.

This was my artist statement : "Society, conformity, and the quest for perfection and beauty are the foundations of my art making practice. These ideas have a direct relevance to my life and provide a reflection of the world around me. In my works, colour can be seen as the symbol of vibration, an intense experience which expands the mind and creates possibilities. I believe that when colour is interpreted in its purest state and is seen as vivid and dramatic, a new creation can be made. As an artist, I am interested in fusing both colour and my ideas together to create an extraordinary world for the viewer to explore".

New Room

Having been really sick over the past few days, My beautiful husband helped complete my art room witch we exchanged with our original bedroom as the light source was much better. As whooping cough is still getting the better of me, I have been unable to complete much artwork let alone think about the amount of work which is piling up at my desk at work.

i did however find these images on my digital camera.

The first few images are of my amazing art space even though i paint much of the time in front of the television in the over room. Who cannot help but be motivated by a 50 inch LCD screen. LOL.

Reflecting on the past, looking forward to the future.....

Reading back on my proposal that i wrote as a twenty year old, it read "The basis of my research for my studio program is based on the conception of the self image. The conceptional behaviour of one's self to their body and beauty has gradually progressed itself into my work over the past few years. My research intentions are to go further into "The Beauty Myth" and investigate how one judges what is perfect...". This is definitely the direction i want my art to continue to follow...

I forgot to mention, the reason i have so much time to discover my art identity again is that i was blessed to contract Whooping Cough. Such a wonderful sickness to endure. Even having been vaccinated twice in my life, those bugs got the better of me. Having been run down at work and not feeling the best, my low immune system had nothing to fight back at. At least i quit smoking :)
